A foundation SWISS FILMS is the agency for the promotion of Swiss cinema. As a partner of filmmakers, it strengthens the visibility and positive perception of Swiss film culture in Switzerland and abroad. The main missions of the foundation are the radiation, the cultural relay and the networking of Swiss cinema. SWISS FILMS is aimed at broadcasters, the media, interest groups, cultural institutions and the cinephile audience. The foundation has concluded a benefit agreement with the Federal Office of Culture. It is supported by other public and private entities.

SWISS FILMS is the ambassador of Swiss cinema and highlights films specific to each linguistic region while respecting cultural diversity. It offers filmmakers and producers a promotional service and supports international distribution. The foundation benefits from a network at national and international level. It organizes retrospectives and programs around the world. It collects and disseminates reliable information about Swiss independent film production. SWISS FILMS observes the trends of the international cinematographic scene and directs its activities according to these developments.

The organization was created about forty years ago on the initiative of professional circles. In 2004, the Swiss Film Center, the Pro Helvetia cinema department and the Swiss Short Film Agency joined the new SWISS FILMS promotion agency. The Board of Trustees is composed of nine personalities representing the different target groups of the agency. SWISS FILMS is a non-profit organization based in Zurich with an office in Geneva.
